I'm just full of all the new stuff this week, huh? Last week a friend gave us a dishwasher since they upgraded. We decided to install it, but found out that the countertop was about 2 inches too short. Therefore, since we already tore out the cabinet and made a mess, we decided to put in a new countertop. I think we did a pretty good job, it looks pretty professional! It feels good that we upgraded our 70's looking kitchen to looking like the mid 90's. At least 1994, maybe summer of '95.

Ah yes the summer of 95... I was to be a senior in high school that very fall... Sweet romance and that new kitchen smell.
I got to stop eating paint chips!!!
I'm impressed that you were able to install your own countertop. What material is it?
We had someone replace ours when we redid our kitchen a few years ago. We went with corian and have been pretty happy with it.
We used a laminate countertop from Home Depot. It wasn't too hard actually, you just need the right tools. We weren't planning on doing it, but it looks so much better!
